On the island of Iwo Jima, a volcano overlooks its cave-riddled jungles and ashen beaches. 750 miles from Tokyo, the Empire of Japan established airfields to launch attacks on American bombers flying towards mainland Japan. With hundreds of tunnels burrowed into its core to hide Japanese soldiers, they prepared it as the ultimate trap. But America saw it as a battleground for the taking.
When they landed on Iwo Jima's beaches in February of 1945, the Marines faced fierce resistance from the Japanese defenders, who had fortified the island and turned it into a virtual fortress. The battle was fought in some of the harshest conditions imaginable, with Marines facing scorching heat, suffocating ash, and relentless enemy fire. Despite the odds, the Marines persevered and pushed forward, determined to complete their mission.
To commemorate the courage and sacrifice of these Marines — and to honor their memory and legacy — we created the Battle of Iwo Jima Map. These men left their homes, their families, and their loved ones to serve their country and defend our freedoms. Their sacrifices allow us to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities we have today, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid. Their bravery and dedication inspire us to be better, to give back, and to live our lives with purpose and meaning.
The Battle of Iwo Jima Map shows the landing beaches, the dates and directions of the assault, and other key features of the battle. We screenprint these premium, heavy-paper posters the old-school way — by hand — right here in our hometown of Columbia, South Carolina. This ain't no thin, cheap poster, kids. It's 100% American-made, archival, museum-quality artwork that you can frame and pass on to your children. (Or tape it on the wall of your room in the barracks for motivation — we're good either way.)
The Battle of Iwo Jima Map does *not* include a frame.
